Providing East Tennessee Clients Guidance in Post-Divorce Issues
Throughout the course of a divorce, many issues may be settled and court orders issued to see that the terms of the divorce are enforceable. However, situations may arise that require the modification of the established post-divorce orders. If you need a modification of a family law order, it is important to have the help of a knowledgeable lawyer when doing so.
At Pratt & Varsalona, we are a law firm that understands the issues divorced individuals are facing when requiring the modification of standing court orders. We firmly believe that clients seek the modification through the proper legal channels instead of just changing the terms on their own, even if they are agreed upon by both parties. By having the modification in writing, there can be no arguing over whether or not one party consented to the changes in terms. Contact our office today and schedule an initial consultation to discuss your post-divorce modification needs.
Changes to Child Custody, Child Support and Spousal Support
There may be changes to any agreements or court orders established during the divorce process. However, the most common issues that require modification are child custody, child support and spousal support (alimony).
- When there is an extensive change in circumstances of one party, such as the loss of a job or gaining employment, changes may be made to child support and spousal support orders that reflect the new or loss of income.
- A modification must be made to a child custody agreement or order whenever a parent wants or needs more time with a child, or less in some cases.
- If a custodial parent is attempting to move out of state or out of the area with a child, a relocation order must be issued. The parent is not allowed to move out of the area, unless staying within a certain distance, without the court's consent.
Our firm handles modifications on either side of the issue: whether you are seeking the modification or attempting to block the successful granting of the modification.
